The College

Barstow Community College (BCC) is an open-access, comprehensive two-year institution serving a diverse student population in the Mojave region of San Bernardino County, California. The College's campus is located in the City of Barstow, California, situated in California's high desert, between Los Angeles, California and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Established in 1959, the Barstow Community College District (BCCD) encompasses a vast service area, stretching from the Nevada border on the East to Kern County on the West, and from Inyo County in the North to the San Bernardino Mountain range in the South. BCCD serves the communities of Barstow, Lenwood, Newberry Springs, Daggett, Yermo, Hinkley, Ludlow and Baker. The institution also maintains a satellite learning center at the U.S. Army National Training Center in Ft. Irwin, California, which serves military personnel and their families.

The Study

BCC provides the first two years of college or university study as part of the California State Community College System of Higher Education. The College's educational programs include lower-division college coursework and general education offerings for transfer to baccalaureate degree institutions. The College also provides a skilled work-force through credit-based classes and contract training that meets the needs of employers and provides students with relevant 21 st century career and technical education that leads to academic achievement and successful employment in a global economy. To further assist students, the College offers an extensive range of pre-collegiate basic skills courses in Mathematics, Reading and English to those who need additional academic support before matriculating into a college degree, certificate and/or transfer program.

The Office of the President in partnership with the elected Board of Trustees, provides leadership necessary to guarantee educational quality, promote student success and engagement, maintain fiscal solvency, and develop and nurture useful community, regional, state, and national relationships.

The Adult Education Office at Barstow Community College offers a variety of programs and services to adult learners in the area. Located in the high desert's rural region, Barstow Community College District is at the helm of adult education. We provide students with quality programs that integrate traditional education with workforce skills training, for a tailored approach to college and career pathways, in a noncredit fashion.

Barstow Community College's Adult Education Program (BCCAEP) currently serves students with Basic Skills enhancement, in English and Mathematics; English as a Second Language (ESL) for English Language Learners (ELL); as well as Citizenship course to help individuals complete the N-400 naturalization test.

All of the programs offered through BCCAEP are 100% tuition-free, noncredit courses. To learn more about these programs, or to get enrolled, please contact our Transitional Counselor, Michelle Colleoc today!

Barstow Community College is a member of the Barstow Area Consortium for Adult Education ( BACAE ), which includes: Baker Valley Unified School District , Barstow Unified School District (Barstow Adult School), and Silver Valley Unified School District . The Barstow College Foundation (BCF) was established in 1981 by a group of individuals that were passionate about higher education and dedicated to making a difference. As a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit benefit corporation and auxiliary organization of Barstow Community College, the Foundation was organized to promote, assist, and accept gifts, property and funds to be used for the sole benefit of the College.


With a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of diverse members and leaders from our community, the Foundation facilitates gifts and raises charitable contributions through our annual fundraising events and initiatives to provide scholarship funds that assist students in realizing their goal of higher education and to support special program needs of the college.
